Today marks the 44th annual World Environment Day. First celebrated in 1974, this UK-based holiday raises awareness of environmental issues from marine pollution to global warming to sustainable consumption. Like US-based Earth Day, World Environment Day encourages becoming a sustainable business and responsible citizen and promoting responsible stewardship. At DPRINT, environmental sustainability is important to us. We work hard to responsibly source the materials we use and to leave a small carbon footprint in our wake. In fact, we’ve built an entire sustainability policy around the principles we believe in. Our sustainability policy has a three-fold goal: To protect and preserve the environment, to enhance our competitive advantages today, and to promote opportunity, equity, and improved quality of life for our people.
In honor of World Environment Day, and in keeping with our own core beliefs and company culture, we invite your company to join ours in becoming a sustainable business. Need help getting started? There are two quick, simple ways you can do that. First, evaluate your energy sources and uses. Embracing renewable energy sources is a smart way to make less of a detrimental impact on our natural resources and to decrease your company’s energy costs. When possible, opt for solar or wind power, less fuel consumption, and energy efficient appliances, machinery, and light bulbs. Turn off unused lights and equipment and close doors to use heating and AC efficiently.
Secondly, your business can actively go as paperless as possible. Becoming a sustainable business really can start with a simple step like going paperless. Businesses not only decrease their carbon footprint when they go paperless, they also save a good amount of physical and financial resources that might otherwise go into purchasing and replenishing paper and ink. Going paperless can mean instituting digital communication with customers and suppliers or banning paper overuse and waste in your office.
Becoming a sustainable business has an impressive array of benefits. You’ll align yourself with a sizeable portion of your target market because no matter what business you’re in, environmental enthusiasts are bound to be among your target market. You’ll also experience these additional benefits:
Your company may have its own reasons for joining the plethora of responsible, sustainable businesses among our ranks. No matter what your motivating factor is, we all reap the benefits of ecologically and environmentally sound business practices. Take strides to involve your business in community awareness activities that champion ride sharing, recycling, clean oceans, and clean air. You’ll gain respect, recognition, and admiration.
